IowaCivics.com is a free educational website operated by Fairfield AO LLC. Protecting student privacy is part of how this site is designed. The site does not require an account and does not ask students or other visitors to submit personal information.
COPPA compliance
IowaCivics.com is designed to comply with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and the Federal Trade Commission’s COPPA Rule. We do not knowingly collect, use, or disclose personal information from children under 13. We do not condition access to educational content or games on a child providing personal information.
Because this site does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, it does not request parental consent. If a future feature would collect personal information from a child under 13, we will provide the required notice and obtain verifiable parental consent before collection unless a COPPA exception applies.
Information we do not request
IowaCivics.com does not ask for or provide a way to submit a visitor’s name, email address, telephone number, home address, school name, student identification number, photograph, video, audio recording, precise location, or other user-generated content. The site does not offer user accounts, public profiles, messaging, uploads, or payments.
Practice-test information
Practice-test selections and scoring are handled in the visitor’s browser. Individual answers are not sent to or stored in a Fairfield AO LLC database. The resulting score is held temporarily in browser session storage so it can be displayed on the results page. The Civics Challenge Board also uses browser session storage for team names, scores, played clues, and round progress, so a classroom game can survive a page refresh. This information stays in the visitor’s browser tab session and is not sent to a Fairfield AO LLC database or used to identify or track the visitor. Please use team names rather than students’ full names.
Hosting and technical information
This static website is delivered through Firebase Hosting, a service provided by Google. Like most hosting services, Firebase Hosting may automatically process limited technical information needed to deliver and secure the site, such as an IP address, browser or device information, requested pages, referring page, and the date and time of a request.
Any persistent identifiers processed through hosting are used only to support internal operations such as network communication, security, fraud prevention, debugging, and maintaining site functionality. IowaCivics.com does not use this information to contact a child, create a behavioral profile, or serve targeted advertising.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
IowaCivics.com does not currently use advertising networks, behavioral advertising, third-party analytics, social-media plug-ins, or tracking pixels. The site does not sell or rent personal information. Other than the temporary browser session storage described above, IowaCivics.com does not set cookies or similar technologies for tracking visitors.
External links
The site links to government resources and separately hosted educational tools. Following one of those links takes the visitor to a different website whose privacy practices are controlled by that website’s operator. IowaCivics.com does not allow those external sites to collect information through pages hosted on IowaCivics.com.
Parents’ rights
Because IowaCivics.com does not maintain accounts or a database of children’s personal information, we ordinarily have no child-specific information to review or delete. A parent or legal guardian who believes personal information from a child under 13 has been collected may contact Fairfield AO LLC. We will investigate the request and, if information is found, allow the parent to review it, request its deletion, and prevent further collection or use as required by COPPA. We may take reasonable steps to verify that the requester is the child’s parent or legal guardian.
Data retention and security
IowaCivics.com does not retain practice answers or scores in a site database. Technical records maintained by the hosting provider are retained according to the provider’s policies and only as reasonably necessary for operating, securing, and maintaining the service. We use reasonable measures appropriate to this static site to protect its integrity.
